SSD and RAM Upgrade Mistakes That Kill Performance

A low-cost hardware upgrade can make a system feel much faster, but only if the specification and the upgrade path are matched correctly.

The wrong SSD form factor

A lot of buyers assume every laptop uses the same storage format. In reality, some systems use 2242, 2280, or soldered storage. Installing the wrong drive type can create a downgrade instead of a performance upgrade.

RAM is not always easy to expand

Some machines are limited to one memory slot, some are soldered, and some use low-speed DDR4 or LPDDR variants. A six-month-old refurb can still be limited by a poor memory configuration even if the CPU is strong.

The real boost is often balance

A faster SSD helps a machine feel snappy, but too little RAM still bottlenecks the experience. Buy the upgrade that fits the intended workload rather than chasing a single spec headline.
